Grown up Treasure Hunting

Our USAA magazine gave us a financial tip this month.  It said that there are billions of unclaimed dollars in America.  I guess most of this "lost" money comes from uncashed checks, which companies are required to account for to the state.  To be honest, Mark is the one who read it, and I wasn't really listening that well when he explained it to me.

But, we went to unclaimed.org, chose all the states we lived in and searched our names. I wasn't terribly surprised that we had no unclaimed checks.

The fun came when we started typing in the names of family members and discovered lots of money owed to others in our family.

Check it out.

Pretty cool stuff. Usually they publish names in the newspaper every year for unclaimed property. A couple of years ago Deana's mom saw my name and we followed up on it and I got like 300 bucks that apparently Microsoft owed me from a rebate or something. Pretty cool! I'll check it out.

Nothing for us, but I guess we really haven't been making much money lately. :o) I did see one for someone we both know and love for 1.22, or something like that. Pretty funny! I read the same article and was so proud of us, cuz we just cancelled our cable. Pinching those pennies! We got it free for a few months and now they are slowly starting to charge us. Time to turn it off. Miss you guys!
